First Trimester Recap: Symptoms and Cravings PLUS Gender Reveal!

First Trimester Recap: Symptoms and Cravings PLUS Gender Reveal! Our TTC Story and more www.MalenaHaas.com
Hello, friends! I realized that I had shared my pregnancy announcement on YouTube but had failed to do so on the blog. In today's post I will be recapping the journey through our first trimester as well as revealing the gender of our baby.

Gender Reveal

I hate blog posts or videos that make you wait so.... It's a Girl!!!! We are so elated to be having a little princess in our family. I truly feel complete. I secretly joked with Corey that if we were having another boy I might just try for a third and see if we get a girl.

Trying To Conceive

It took us a couple of months of TTC. This was a very stressful time as I had all the "normal" concerns rushing through my mind ('am I amble to conceive again', 'is there something wrong with me', etc.) I finally decided to purchase these ovulation tracking sticks after narrowing down my ovulation window and BOOM, within the month, we were pregnant.

Finding Out We Were Pregnant

I kept feeling overly emotional and irritable over things that normally wouldn't affect me. In the back of my mind I kept telling myself, "This isn't normal. WTH?!" I still wanted to wait until the week of my missed cycle in order to test but I was antsy to know.

Sure enough, the first day of my missed period I whipped out the pee stick and got the slightest positive. With my first child I took a million tests to confirm the pregnancy but this time around one very faint positive was enough! I called an OB and set an appointment for my first ultrasound.

First Trimester Symptoms

The first trimester was just as miserable as usual. I am not one of those glowing and happy pregnant women. Here is the barrage of symptoms I had during the first twelve weeks of pregnancy:

  • Nausea;
  • MAJOR food aversions to all meat;
  • MAJOR smell aversions to coffee (which I loved prior to);
  • Horrible Acne;
  • Extreme Fatigue; and
  • Cramping.

The big surprise this time around was my aversion to coffee. This was not something that happened during my pregnancy with David and I was mortified as coffee was my "go juice." Essentially my life source!

As most moms, the cramping had me really concerned and joining online groups like Glow Nurture Community helped ease my worries. Here is a screen shot of my favorite pregnancy Apps and resources:

First Trimester Cravings

Prior to getting pregnant I had been on the Ketogenic lifestyle or diet. This all changed when I absolutely could not stand the site or smell of meat. I went from no carbs (under 20 grams a day) to ALL CARBS ALL THE TIME!

I loved anything sugary and carby such as cereal, cookies, or donuts. My go to were graham crackers. Later on in the first trimester I could consume beef but chicken was still out of the question. My go to meal was (and is) the No 4. burger with cheese from Jack and The Box... with a side of mini churros of course!

I have ended up showing my bump a lot sooner, it being my second go around and with eating all the carbs. This is a picture of me at 11 weeks!
