Maternity Must Haves: Fashion Edition

If you are pregnant, chances are you NEED these wardrobe staples in your life. BONUS - These items can cross-over into mommyhood long after the pregnant belly is gone.

Clothing

Lets be honest, most of us feel like beached whales during pregnancy. Nothing speaks promises of slimmed silhouettes like black clothing. I lived in black leggings and tank tops. Not only were they extremely versatile, they were extremely comfortable as well. You can get away with looking put together for very little effort!

Footware

I have a substantial shoe collection, mostly consisting of 5 inch stiletto heels. I swore I would be the type of pregnant woman who would always be in heels and would only wear flats if I was working out or going somewhere that required flip flops.

Yeah... right... This was not the case. Balancing your new found belly on 5 inch heels is down right cruel. Not wanting to sacrifice style, I opted for cute ballerina flats in the oh so neutral black. I also purchased some new Nike sneakers in a shade matching my new slimming ensemble. The Nike were perfect on super casual days when all I wanted to do was stay home and nap.

Accessories

The handbag is the ultimate accessory. Your best friends are Mr. Cross-Body and Ms. Carry-All

When you are carrying an additional 20 lbs. plus, the last thing you want to do is carry around a bowling ball of a handbag. The cross body is the ideal bag on those days where taking a mere shower is exhausting.

Feeling snackish? Thirsty? Ms. Carry-All has you covered. A tote is large enough to fit a water bottle and snacks for those days (of which there are many) in which you feel like you haven't eaten in decades. My favorite is the Longchamp Le Pliage which can convert into a diaper bag post pregnancy!

Tying It All Together...

Maternity clothes can be expensive. By keeping staples in a monochromatic color, it is extremely easy to mix and match pieces. This maximizes your time and wardrobe, getting more bang for your buck!
